Welcome to our Web Site.
Aboriginal Head Start is a federal initiative funded by Health Canada. It is a comprehensive program to provide early interventions to Aboriginal, Métis and Inuit children. It includes the protection and promotion of Aboriginal cultures and languages, education, health, nutrition, counseling and parental involvement.
The Ottawa Aboriginal Headstart program operates with a staff of seven. It has been in operation since September 8th, 1997 and currently serves 48 pre-school Aboriginal youngsters aged 2˝ to 5 years old. Parent volunteers play a big role in delivery of services such as bussing children to and from the program. A board of directors consisting of Aboriginal parents from the community oversees the program direction.
